Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in 13th place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
